With Microsoft Windows 10 S, users can download apps directly from the Windows Store.
As outlined in the Surface Laptop's specs, those who "prefer to run non-Store apps [can] switch to Windows 10 Pro for free until Dec 31, 2017". And after some lengthy introductions of what the new OS can do, Microsoft then whipped out a Surface device that runs on the said OS.
Microsoft unveiled its premium Surface Laptop on Tuesday, in its efforts to become the new cool kid at school.
Myerson demonstrated onstage the ability of the new Windows to support peripherals and devices just like the standard Windows 10.
At the very least, the Surface Laptop won't look much like any other computer out there.
"You are able to download another browser that might be available from the Windows Store, but Microsoft Edge will remain the default if, for example, you open an.htm file", said Microsoft.
The laptop uses the latest Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, and the company says that the battery life will last for 14.5 hours as a result.
Computers running on streamlined Windows 10 S will tap into online tools such as Microsoft Office 365 and will get applications that have been vetted at a Windows online shop, according to the Redmond, Washington-based technology giant. Every license of Minecraft for Education will be offered for free with the Windows 10 education PCs and will be primarily targeted towards schools.
Microsoft is taking orders for Surface Laptop, and planned to begin shipping them in mid-June. Can Windows 10 S take a serious slice out of Google's share of the education market? For the operating system to be successful, Microsoft will need to populate the Windows Store with enough options to stand toe-to-toe with Google's services and the apps on the Play Store. The systems are priced in the same general range as Microsoft's current Surface Pro 4 line. Without USB-C but equipped with a classic USB, a jack and an SD player, the Surface Laptop has a good data sheet. For the price, users will get an Intel i5 processor with 4GB of RAM and a 128GB flash storage. Microsoft's devices chief Panos Panay said regarding student's computing requirements, "We talk to a lot of them. they're asking for a laptop, they're asking for a Surface laptop".style="text-align: center;"
