The Bucs traded up into the second round to draft Aguayo after he was an All-American kicker at Florida State.
Aguayo missed his first kick vs the Philadelphia Eagles during a preseason game a year ago, and he was boo'd off the field by Bucs fans after missing more kicks during practice.
Aguayo also stunk it up in the early going past year, missing an extra point in the Bucs' first preseason game and two field goals in their second.
Agauyo's first miss of the night came on a second-quarter extra point that clanked off the upright. "If you're a kicker, you've got to make your kicks". I know I pushed it a little bit, and I felt hopefully it would stay in but it broke right. I hit it good. Obviously not up to the standards that I want. You just have to keep your head up and move onto the next day.
Asked if he thought he may have cost himself a job with Friday's performance, Aguayo said, "You wanted to come out and be flawless". I hit some good kickoffs. He was last in the National Football League with a field goal percentage of 71.
"When you get bored doing something, 'well there's more I can do". "It's a new day".
"But it's natural instinct to think, 'I want to get better.' And I'm not saying he's doing that - I don't know".
Earlier this offseason, general manager Jason Licht and coach Koetter made it crystal clear that training camp and the Bucs' preseason games were key in helping them evaluate players and reach a verdict on important position battles like the Buccaneers' kicking job. His longest conversion was only from 43 yards away. Folk converted 82.2 percent of his field goal attempts during his seven seasons in NY.style="text-align: center;"
