A lawyer for Kelly told BuzzFeed that the singer denies the allegations.
(Fulton County contains much of the city of Atlanta.) Eaves, who is also running for mayor of Atlanta, claims in a statement that local police have discovered "key information" that is enough to support an investigation.
The original allegations, first reported by Buzzfeed, claimed Kelly was keeping young women at his homes in Chicago and Atlanta, taking their mobile phones off them, limiting how many times they're allowed to leave the house, and filming them having sex with him.
The action was called upon by Mayoral candidate and Fulton County Chairman, John Eaves. Eaves, said that indeed, Howard verified that "now there is a potential investigation that will occur".
Chairman Eaves is now calling for a criminal investigation against R. Kelly by the Fulton County District Attorney's Office.
The Fulton County District Attorney's office was also "not investigating" R Kelly, District Attorney Paul Howard said in an emailed statement.
But according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Johns Creek police Lt. Chris Byers said on Friday "there is no new evidence in the closed investigation".
Parents of an Atlanta woman said to be living with R. Kelly spoke out on July 17, with the woman's father, Tim Savage, saying that his 22-year-old daughter, Jocelyn Savage, was "being held against her will" and the last time he saw her she was in "a disgusting condition".
The 50-year-old R&B star is facing accusations from two sets of parents, who claim he has brainwashed their daughters and other women, and records his sexual encounters with them. Wolf Creek Amphitheatre and Fulton County should not be vehicles through which R. Kelly can increase his notoriety, gloss over and normalize his behavior, and continue to profit and fund his crimes against women.
Fulton County commissioners previously voted unanimously to send a letter to Live Nation to shut down an upcoming Kelly concert in Atlanta on August 25, but Live Nation, which runs his tour, has said the concert will proceed.
