In a campaign that lacked Champions League football, Liverpool's lack of back-up performers meant their season fell apart when Sadio Mane left for worldwide duty in January's African Cup of Nations, with injuries to Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana and treatment room season ticket holder Daniel Sturridge adding to their woes.
Klopp said on Wednesday: "When we finished last season in fourth position everybody was really happy about it - it was really a good result for a big effort".
"We'll also see how their first season will be without a monument like Totti in the dressing room", he added.
Klopp's men have had a busy summer, playing eight warm-up games ahead of Saturday's kick-off at Watford.
Owen said, "Liverpool will have to go through the qualification rounds for the Champions League which adds extra matches, but JurgenKlopp has addressed this by adding both quality and quantity to the squad".
