Mr. Calvo, who has been Guam's governor since 2011, concluded that there was some concern among the public on Guam but no panic and the authorities were "very confident" that there was no heightened threat despite the warnings from North Korea which were first made on Wednesday. They haven't quelled tensions, but could be a foundation for a more diplomacy, according to US officials and others briefed on the process.
He told Calvo: "You notice that he hasn't spoken recently? We are with you 1,000 per cent", the media reported on Saturday.
North Korea has announced a detailed plan to launch a salvo of ballistic missiles into the seas around the US Pacific territory of Guam, a major military hub and home to US bombers. "All over the world they're talking about Guam and they're talking about you", the clip, about 45 seconds long, showed the President as saying. "They should have had me eight years ago".
"I can tell you this - tourism, you're going to go up like 10-fold with the expenditure of no money so I congratulate you", he added.
In a separate interview, Secretary Delfin Lorenzana of the Department of National Defense admitted the government was watching with concern the rising tension between the USA and North Korea.
Guam's governor took a personal call from the president of the United States and streamed it on Facebook.
Trump continued to exchange pleasantries with Calvo, saying that the governor had "become famous", and suggesting that he would visit the USA territory in the future.
Before the call ended, Calvo invited Trump to Guam, and Trump told him to come see him in the White House the next time he's in Washington.
I take issue with your editorial that includes a description of "residents of Guam glancing nervously skyward" ("Alternative fact of the Week: Trump's nuclear arsenal", August 10).
Guam's Office of Civil Defense started passing out flyers on Friday to help residents prepare for a missile attack from North Korea..
During the phone call Mr Calvo laments criticism of Mr Trump, saying "from a guy that's being targeted, we need a president like you".
