Matic had a clear desire to leave Chelsea after contract negotiations between him and the Blues failed to bear fruit, and Wright believes Arsenal should have tried to persuade the Serbia worldwide to reject the lure of Manchester United and remain in the capital in order to follow in the footsteps of former Chelsea goalie Petr Cech who swapped west London for north London some years ago.
However, the 22-year-old is unproven in the Premier League and is still shaking off a minor knee injury as he bids to be fit for the new campaign.
With Arsenal having had the same manager in charge for over two decades comes certain things like stability (or stagnation) and while other clubs like Chelsea chop and change and you never really know what to expect from them, Arsenal are often accused of having the same old problems season after season.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Wright said: "They have signed Bakayoko from Monaco to replace Matic, but he has to come in and hit the ground running because Chelsea want to go far in the Champions League and defend the Premier League trophy".

In the past few days Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted that with some 32 players in the current squad, if anything the club will look to trim their roster in order to balance the wage budget.
